2nd Session Week 2!

Hi Gesher Families and Friends, 

We are back with another blog post! Today marks exactly two weeks since second session has began, in what feels like two very short weeks we experienced our chanichimot (campers) going from strangers to the bestest of friends, so many of our chanichimot came in for the first time feeling like two weeks would feel like forever and we were so glad when so many wanted to extend because they realized it just wasn’t enough. 

Today, we said a bittersweet goodbye to our two-week campers. It’s amazing how quickly they became such an important part of camp, and it was definitely hard to see them go, we know they took a piece of Gesher home with them. 

Although we have been here all summer, it brings so much light to our camp experience when we are able to make such strong connections with all kiddos no matter how long they are here with us, we hope they left feeling proud of their accomplishments at camp, full of wonderful memories and excited to return next summer!

Reflecting on our Week

Every Shabbat, the Rosh (head of camp) encourages the chanichimot to reflect on their week and shares the meaning of the Parsha. This past week's Parsha Re’eh translates to “see”. Noa used this opportunity to encourage our chanichimot to see camp through different lenses and think about the way they have shaped the camp community and the way camp has helped shape them. We loved hearing our chanichimot reflect on how they have experienced camp throughout their time here. Many shared thoughtful reflections on their own accomplishments, as well as those of their friends. Seeing them begin to recognize and celebrate the growth of those around them is one of the things we love most about this community.

Kvutzah Moments of the Week!

The second we welcomed our Post MBI week two campers, they put their creative minds to work to create an underwater scuba experiment for themselves. We love seeing kids unplug from the world and get creative again with materials we have at their disposal!

On Saturday night the Bonim gathered around the misrad (the office) with a speaker and an MP3 player and had an impromptu dance/karaoke party at the window. All of the tzevet (counsellors) in the misrad joined in. Misrad hill dance parties are a Gesher classic from our time as chanichimot and we love to see the tradition continued!

Our Megalimot Tzevet ran an awesome peulah (educational block) on chemistry! Our Tzevet shared their passion for chemistry with their chanichimot in an engaging way and they even got to do some fun experiments of their own, we love when our tzevet brings their passions to their chanichimot. 

As we head into our final week together, we feel grateful for the summer we have had, sad to be leaving our favourite place so soon and excited to see what our final week together will bring.
