Hi Gesher Families and Friends,

Welcome to our brand-new Gesher blog! We’re so excited to have a space where we can share a little bit of the magic of camp with all of you at home.

Each Sunday, we’ll be posting updates from the week, sharing some of the exciting things our chanichimot (campers) have been up to, and highlighting some of our favourite moments and photos from around machaneh (camp). We hope this gives you a little window into the incredible summer your children are experiencing here at Gesher!

First, We Want to Introduce Ourselves!

We are the Mazkirut, the youth leadership team that runs camp. We oversee the day-to-day operations of machaneh, make sure everyone is happy, healthy, and supported, and work closely with our incredible Tzevet (staff) to ensure they are giving your children the care, attention, and love they deserve.

So, who are we?

Noa – Rosh Machaneh (Head of Camp)

Amy – Techni (Technical Director)

Talya – Chinuch (Educational Director)

Rae – Melavah (Childcare Director)

Mika – Shlicha (Israel Education)

We each bring something different to the Mazkirut, but together, our goal is the same: to create a summer where every chanichol feels safe, supported, challenged, celebrated, and, most importantly, like they truly belong.

First Session Update 🌞

We had an incredible first session with all of our chanichimot! Over the past few weeks, we have experienced so much together and had the privilege of watching each camper grow, not only as individuals, but also as members of their kvutzot (age groups) and as part of our larger machaneh community.

One of the most meaningful parts of this session has been watching our campers engage with the world around them. We have seen them ask thoughtful questions, have difficult conversations, listen to perspectives that may be different from their own, and approach complex topics with curiosity, openness, and grace. It is incredibly special to watch our campers feel comfortable asking questions, exploring their values, and learning from one another.

One of our favourite things about Gesher is the opportunity to build connections across all age groups. This session, our chuggim (specialty activities) created so many opportunities for campers to explore their interests alongside people they might not normally spend time with. From painting murals and planning a play production, to working towards running goals, earning Bronze Cross certifications, and so much more, we have loved seeing campers support and learn from one another across the entire machaneh.

Something else we are incredibly proud of this summer is how much our Oneg productions have grown! Each week, every kvutzah and camper had an active role in bringing their Oneg to life. Campers created props and costumes, developed hilarious and creative storylines, and worked together to put on performances that had the entire machaneh laughing, cheering, and celebrating together. It has been so wonderful to see how engaged everyone has become in the process and to watch the excitement build as each group prepares to take the stage!

Without boring you all with too much, we are incredibly happy to say that first session was truly one for the books. We are so proud of our Tzevet for bringing their energy, creativity, patience, and love to camp every single day. We are proud of our chanichimot for showing up for all of it, the exciting moments, the silly moments, the challenging moments, and everything in between. Most of all, we are proud of the community we have built together.

Thank you for trusting us with your children and for being such an important part of our Gesher community. We can't wait to see what the rest of the summer brings!
